Your skin has the important task of protecting you from pollutants from the environment, UV rays, bacteria, allergens and climate and temperature fluctuations. The lamellar lipid layer in your skin, called the extracellular lipid matrix, plays a key role in this. It is a kind of barrier that prevents harmful things from the outside getting in. If it is unstable, your skin can become dry and sensitive. The Skin Lipid Matrix (SLM) helps to restore this natural protective function. It mimics the lamellar structure of the extracellular matrix to protect the skin from moisture loss.

The skin is the largest organ in our body. Their outermost layer consists of two parts: corneocytes (nucleusless cells) and a lamellar lipid bilayer (extracellular lipid matrix) made of ceramides, cholesterol and fatty acids. The composition and organization of this natural lipid matrix is fundamental to the functioning of your skin barrier. It regulates the skin's water balance and protects it from environmental influences. This is exactly where SLM comes in to provide support: it supplies new skin lipids as soon as the lipid layer is disturbed and there is too little fat. This protects your skin from drying out.

HOW THE SKIN LIPID MATRIX WORKS
A structure similar to your skin
If the lipid layer is disturbed, your skin can become noticeably dry. As a kind of skin renewer, the Skin Lipid Matrix provides your skin with new lipids. It mimics the structure of the skin's own matrix to repair the skin barrier. However, many skin care products contain synthetic emulsifiers (e.g. PEG compounds) that dissolve the natural fat layer. On contact with water, it is then literally washed away (wash-out effect). To prevent this from happening, the Skin Lipid Matrix in our products does not contain any classic emulsifiers. Due to its natural lipid composition, our Skin Lipid Matrix cares for and protects your skin at the same time. And thanks to its skin-like membrane structure, it provides a soft and comfortable feel.
